CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (November 14, 2009) — Following State Rep. Richard Floyd’s tirade in the Saturday Times-Free Press, where he referred to President Obama as a “Socialist” and his administration as “a gang of thugs”, Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Jeff Brown fired back.
“Rep. Floyd is in such dire need of new material that he resurrects years-old innuendos that have been debunked by his own special interest lobbyist cronies in an untrue and reprehensible attack on our President. His lack of respect for the office, along with his rank fear-mongering, are much more indicative of thuggery; perhaps the image in the mirror was the true inspiration for his word choice.” said Brown.
He added, “As we prepare for our annual tribute to Chattanooga’s first Senator, Estes Kefauver, we are reminded of the red-baiting that hearkens back to his day. We will gladly continue to honor the memory of Sen. Kefauver, while Rep. Floyd and his ilk can keep Sen. McCarthy alive and well.”
